Teahouses

At Corax’s request, I have made a list of teahouses in Beijing, and provided English translations. Here’s a list of 9 teahouses in Beijing. Some have more than 1 location – because they’re franchises or branch locations. I haven’t personally visited any of these places, but some of them are quite famous. So you shouldn’t miss an opportunity to visit a teahouse in Beijing. This list will be added to at a later date.

Dear Warren,

Thank you for the list, I'll print it out! I've visited the famous Laoshe teahouse - it is a typical stop for most visiting dignitaries (to which the photographs on the walls attest), but it is a bit of a theme park. Worth seeing, but keep expectations low.

My favourite, which is "the real thing", is the Kongzi Chalou [Confucious Teahouse], opposite Yonghegong [Lama Temple]. Great stuff: nice tea, nice surroundings, knowledgeable and classical staff, weiqi/Go.

Toodlepip,

Hobbes

Finally, I have been frustrated for months by the Great Firewall of China blocking this blog and others. Finally, I figured out to download the Freegate program so I can see this blog and the comments. Okay, I'm not saying people in China should be doing illegal things, but blocking all blogspot.com blogs is ridiculous. I only want to post about tea. And now I can, restriction free.

More updates to Chadao coming soon...

Warren,

I am delighted to read your posting of teahouses in Beijing.

Moreover, now that you have "broken through," I eagerly anticipate your future writings for Cha Dao.

Steve.
